With methods for process improvement, IT organizations can streamline their processes and redevelop them in a controlled manner. Maturity level models make it possible to measure the general process quality of the company, and to improve it in a targeted manner.

TÜViT has been providing its customers with reliable support for the improvement of their IT processes for more than 15 years.

Objectives of process improvement

  • improving the effectiveness and efficiency of IT processes
  • shortening lead times and reaction times
  • avoiding duplication of tasks
  • fulfilling documentation obligations for processes

Our procedure

At the start of process improvements, there is generally a process assessment. In this stage, we record the processes of a company and analyze the interactions between them. On this basis, we propose specific improvement measures for the processes. To this end, we utilize maturity level models.

With these models, we closely examine the individual process areas, or all processes throughout the company. The result is an assessment of the process maturity level achieved, and targeted measures for improving process maturity. With a reassessment, we evaluate the success of process improvements that have been implemented.

Standards and methods

We use maturity level models, such as CMMI® (Capability Maturity Model Integration) and SPICE (Software Process Improvement and Capability Determination, standardized as ISO 15504-5), to determine process maturity, and we use the maturity level model TPI Next® (Test Process Improvement) for assessments of test processes.

For the analysis of processes, the method of business process modeling has proven effective. It reliably identifies potential for improvement, because contradictions in workflows and responsibilities become immediately apparent. TÜViT uses ARIS (Architecture-integrated Information Systems), the proven standard for business process modeling.

  • actual situation assessment of the processes in the company
  • targeted analysis, documentation and optimization of individual processes or process areas
  • company-wide assessment and improvement of process maturity
