In any organization there are often multiple projects running parallel to one another. Taking advantage of the synergies between the projects, making the results comparable, and prioritizing and interlinking the projects themselves in an appropriate manner, are the tasks of a Project Management Office (PMO).

TÜViT has been supporting customers with the development and implementation of a Project Management Office (PMO) for nearly 10 years.

 

Objectives of the PMO

A Project Management Office is where the threads of all the projects within an organization come together. The PMO prioritizes and controls individual projects in a portfolio. This allows business objectives to be implemented in a practical manner across multiple projects without wasting resources. This also includes the general controlling processes: if e.g. personnel are controlled across multiple projects, double-booking and idle time can be avoided.

The Project Management Office ensures a standardized procedure in projects. The result is an improved ability to control and compare processes, even where the project content differs.

Our procedure

Together with the management, we define the objectives and scope of the organization-specific PMO.

We support the staff of a Project Management Office from the development, establishment and introduction of the standard up to operational activities. If required, we conduct training courses and coaching sessions.

We provide support with the development of organization-specific regulations and standards, ensuring independent quality assurance and neutral project controlling.

Federal Information Technology Center (ITZ Bund)

TÜViT has been supporting the German Federal Institute for IT Services (DLZ-IT) since 2010 with the development and implementation of a Project Management Office (PMO) for the public authorities of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), and since 2012 has been collaborating with the IT service provider msg.

Within the framework of the IT consolidation of the Federal Government, as of January 1, 2016, the IT service providers of the Federal Ministries of Finance (BMF), the Interior (BMI) and the BMVI were merged to form the new Federal IT Center. The Federal Government is planning a sustained consolidation of the IT infrastructure of the three Federal Ministries, and their subordinate Federal Government authorities.

The partners msg and TÜViT are supporting the Federal IT Center in this long-term task with services in project, requirement and test management for the IT projects. A further aspect is the support the Federal IT Center in the development and introduction of new IT systems.

The Project Management Office forwards the project, portfolio and resource management of companies.
