TÜV Informationstechnik GmbH (TÜVIT) and TÜV NORD CERT GmbH have reached a decisive milestone on the road to data protection certification: The State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia (LDI NRW) has granted TÜV NORD CERT GmbH approval for the "Trusted Site Data Privacy" certification criteria developed by TÜV Informationstechnik GmbH.

This marks the successful completion of the technical review of the criteria in accordance with Article 42 (5) GDPR.
The milestone that has now been reached marks the most demanding step in the entire process. Around five years of intensive scrutiny by German and European data protection supervisory authorities were required to obtain the authorisation. Only very few companies in Germany have successfully completed this process to date - TÜVIT and TÜV NORD CERT thus belong to an exclusive circle of recognised data protection experts.
Next phase: Accreditation by the DAkkS
With the approval, TÜV NORD CERT can now enter the next phase: accreditation and authorisation by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS). Data protection certification in accordance with Article 42 GDPR enables companies to demonstrate the GDPR compliance of their IT-supported data processing in a transparent and comprehensible manner and is aimed at all organisations that process personal data across all industries.
What does data protection certification mean for companies?
Data protection certification makes data protection visible and verifiable. In a clearly defined procedure, processing procedures for IT products, services or in the company are checked with regard to compliance with legal data protection requirements. The result: a recognised data protection certificate that proves to the outside world that data protection is implemented systematically, effectively and sustainably.
The certification is aimed at companies of all sizes and in all sectors that process personal data with IT support. It creates trust among customers, business partners and supervisory authorities, increases transparency in the handling of sensitive data and helps companies to communicate their data protection compliance clearly, comprehensibly and credibly.
With this milestone, TÜVIT and TÜV NORD CERT are providing an important impetus for greater transparency and trust in data protection.
